Today Was The Day

#writeyourselfalive – Day 4

As I got closer and closer to the airport, I could feel heart grow heavier and heavier. Today was the day. I could hear the rushing of the cars beside me, all in a hurry to get to their final destination. I kept my eyes on the road, paying attention to the slower moving traffic I was approaching. The gentle rocking of the vehicle as it raced towards a new beginning for her. I put my clicker on to change lanes as I approached the turn off into the airport; click, click, click. A monotonous rhythm as I turned the wheels. After finding a parking stall and turning the engine off, I hesitated for just a moment to gather my wits. Today was the day. The warm summer air greeted me as I opened the door. Just a tickle of a breeze. I could see the people all around me hustling to either catch a flight or hurry home from one. I waited at the terminal doors for her to arrive. Today was the day. My nerves where building up while my mind was a buzz with the thought that my baby really has grown up. And as she walked through that sliding door, a bundle of energy ready to take on the world, the tears formed in my eyes. She was not my baby anymore. She was a couple hours away from boarding a plane to England where she would start her dream of shaping young minds and molding futures. My baby was a teacher! And as I looked at her so poised and confident, I knew that she would not be coming back the same person I was sending off. And today was the day that my oldest child truly was setting out on her own.

Just an average ordinary woman being herself on this crazy ride we call life. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I chose to bring along 4 crazy side kicks on this journey, my 4 kids. The actual realization of my journey began after my divorce. Hindsight being what it is, I realized before my divorce I was just going through the steps. My eyes are now wide open to the path ahead of me.
